About Iconic
Jano Donnachaidh, President: Jano is the driving force behind Iconic Publishing. He is a fan of science fiction and fantasy, light, fun mysteries, and comic books. He is trained as a teacher of English and History, with academic degrees in both, and has a Masters degree in Professional Writing. In addition to editing duties, Jano handles all of the business needs of Iconic Publishing.
With the rise of ebooks, many new authors are opting to publish exclusively by electronic means. This limits their reach. Although ebooks have taken hold in America, they sell less than 10% of purchases around the rest of the world. Iconic believes books belong on retailer shelves as well as electronic inventories.
Iconic is not a vanity press. We do vet submissions. Iconic uses traditional editing methods to help the author hone their story. As editors, we bring an objective opinion of the work. This helps the author to see areas where clarification may be needed, where there might be confusion, or where the reader might be tripped up on the story. Simply, we help the author tell the story to the best of their abilities.
Iconic Publishing embraces a different model of publishing that minimizes overhead costs in a time when many small publishers are going under, and large publishers are becoming increasingly conservative under antiquated publishing methods. In keeping overhead low, we are able to put more of our resources towards making a book a success, and giving new authors the opportunity to make it to market. This does not mean we are sacrificing reach, quite the contrary. Iconic works with major distributors for the greatest market possible, all the major retailers, small booksellers, online retailers, wholesalers and warehouses, schools and libraries.
Iconic editors are professional and freelance editors, and avid readers of the genres with several years of experience. Half of the editors are writers themselves. As editors and writers, we bring a critical and objective eye to a manuscript, one that has more distance than the author’s, to help them tell their story as effectively as possible.
As far as Royalties are concerned. Iconic pays Royalties based on net profit. We calculate net property by taking the Sale Price minus retail discount minus production cost. This is split 50/50 with the author so the the Author’s Royalties are 50% of net profits.
